What Most Schools Don't Teach

The day after I watched Schools as we know are Obsolete (see last post), I came across this video from code.org. What do creators of Facebook, Dropbox, and Twitter have to say about Education.

It is better than innovative and is so far beyond our typical educational trends and "leaders."

point of departure

I began my education as a Composition major in music, went on to complete a Master's in Choral music conducting that required me to read books such as Bowling Alone and Pedagogy of the Oppressed. I am currently pursing a Ed.D in Organizational Leadership and transformational change from the University of San Francisco. It is not coincidence that I pursue my doctorate at a Jesuit Institution as I have spent the last five years directing choirs and engaging in philosophical debates around trends in Education, Leadership and Technology at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco, California. 

I am a fan of Rage Against the Machine and Igor Stravinsky. I enjoy a good meal over rich conversation and a tasty glass of wine. Northern California landscape in the spring is just about the most beautiful thing one can experience. John Steinbeck saw the world the way we wish we could see it. 

My first instrument was the guitar, at college sang in a choir performing J.S. Bach's Magnificat and have been conducting choirs ever since. Most recently, I presented a workshop on Innovation and Technology for Educators and am currently creating a blended, online AP Music Theory course.
